At the meeting with the Society Earl Marshal, we were informed that there
have been 4 reported cases of helm penetrations by the Mandrake style 2"
tips. In several cases, the thrust penetrated with sufficient force to
bruise the fighter face. Both the tips and the helms were inspected and
within specifications. There was also a new report from the Earl Marshal of
the East of a 5th helm penetration that occurred at Pennsic. In all 5
reports, the common factor is that they were all in use on fiberglass
spears.



There have been no reports of helm penetrations by the Mandrake style 2"
tips when used on rattan weapons.



Because of this and in accordance with section VII-A-10 of the Society's
Marshal's Handbook, Mandrake style 2" tips are no longer acceptable as
thrusting tips on fiberglass spears in Atlantia. This means that Section
VII-D-5 of the Society's Marshal's Handbook is no longer valid in Atlantia.
