Chalice of the Sun God XI: Golden
Age of the Titans
Saturday, October 25, 2014
Loudoun Fairgrounds,
Leesburg, Virginia

The Barony of Ponte Alto is pleased to be holding
Chalice of the Sun God XI again this year! In a little more than 8 weeks, we will
honor the Titans, the predecessors/parents to the Greek Gods, on the fields of
battle and through A&S. We will have competitions in armored, rapier,
archery, A&S, and Bardic/Performance; Titans have been highlighted to
inspire competitors in each discipline.
A&S and Bardic/Performance can look to any of these Titans for
inspiration for their entries.

A&S                                        Astraeus,
the Titan god of stars and planets, dusk, and the art of astrology. He married
Eos, Titan goddess of the dawn.  Together
they produced many children who are associated with what occurs in the sky during twilight.

Bardic/Performance           Mnemosyne, the personification of
memory or remembrance. She represented the rote memorization required,
before the introduction of writing, to preserve the stories of history and
sagas of myth. It is said that Kings and
Poets receive their powers of authoritative speech from her.

Archery                                  Lelantos, the
younger Titan god of air and the
hunter's skill of stalking prey. His name was derived from the Greek words lêthô, lanthanô, and lelathon, meaning "to
escape notice," "move unseen" or "go unobserved."

Heavy Fighting                     Perses, the Titan god of
destruction.  Enough said!

Rapier                                    Pallas,the
Titan god of warcraft.  He was the father
of Victory, Rivalry, Strength and Power by Styx (Hate), children who turned to the side of Zeus during the Titan-War. Pallas'
name was derived from the Greek word pallô meaning "to brandish (a
spear)."

We hope to have Youth Combat if Marshals
are available.

The winner of each competition will challenge
the 2013 Chalice Champion in that discipline.  The winners
receive bragging rights, the duty to challenge next year's winners, and of
course, CHOCOLATE!

All can compete in individual disciplines and as part of a
team.  Teams must field a single participant in 4 of the 5 Chalice
disciplines.  A team may include up to 3 Youth participants (please check ahead of time to see if youth combat marshals are available). Each
participant shall receive points for participation and performance (extra
points are awarded for youth participation!).  The team with the
highest score will be declared the winner of the Chalice of the Sun God.  Please
see the “Team Competition Rules” link on the event website for more information
about this part of the competition.  For
the past four years, our neighboring Barony of Stierbach has won the team
competition.  Will they retain the honor or be unseated by another
contender?

Lady Deirdre O’Bardon, Poeta Atlantiae, is sponsoring a written
poetry competition (separate from the Chalice competitions).  She will be posting more specific information
on the Kingdom of Atlantia Facebook page,
the Atlantian Announcments/Merry Rose email lists, and her personal Facebook
page.  Please contact her with any
questions.

Children’s Activities will be offered, and again this year, I am sponsoring the
Children’s Marshmallow Battle (a.k.a. “Pelt the Autocrat”!).
