Northern Army Ponte-Bach Road Trip: Fall Coronation

As we grab the gauntlet thrown in challenge at Pennsic for the
Coronation melee tournament and make ready to demonstrate the strength
and agility of the North, we must do so with great haste and without
delay – for Fall Coronation is nigh upon us and we must make ready for
the long journey to tourney and celebration!

To honor the elevation of their Highnesses and to challenge the rest
of the Kingdom to raise the level of melee fighting throughout the
land, Duke Cuan has called for a melee tourney at Coronation. To
uphold the glory and honor that the North has demonstrated in recent
days, we are crusading forth in strength to accept that challenge!

To expedite and facilitate our ability to bring the full strength of
the North to bear on this quest, the Expeditionary Corps is once again
doing everything possible to ensure that all those who wish to go have
the opportunity to do so – be it ridesharing, carvanning, meals,
accomodations… we've got it covered from start to finish. Please read
on for information regarding travel, food, and lodging for the event.
We hope you will join us as we continue striving to set the standard
for excellence. REMEMBER... our schedule is quite jam-packed and
we'll need to pace ourselves and our activity levels, as we still have
the Chalice on 9/12-9/14, Siege of Glengary on 9/26-9/28, University
on 10/4, a practice with our friends from the East on 10/5, War of the
Wings on 10/9-10/12, Storvik Birthday melees on 10/17-10/19, Treaties
not Turks in Bright Hills on 10/24-26, and a War Muster/Practice on
10/26. Choose wisely!! We'd love to have everyone at every event,
but we'd rather have folks *not* burning out! Have fun out there!
Please feel free to pass this message along to anyone or any lists you
feel appropriate.

Fighting:

If you hope to fight with the melee team at all, and have not yet
advised Max by email, YOU MUST do so immediately! There are ten spots
on the team and we have been working hard to ensure that we have the
slots filled and an extremely competitive team. You can reach max at warlord at pontealto.org
  or max.nelson at gd-ais.com.

Travel:

We will be leaving from Kat's house (3206 TAYLOE COURT HERNDON, VA
20171) Friday, September 5th [please note that parking around the
complex is in guest spots only and that you will need a "guest" sign
from Kat to place in your windshield prior to our departure, so you
may want to stop at the door before parking]. The drive is
approximately 6½ hours, so we will attempt to leave as early as
possible -- make sure to let us know in the database (link below) the
earliest time you can leave, as we will leave as early as possible,
and if you cannot leave until later in the day WE NEED TO KNOW ASAP.
If you want to join the caravan, either as a driver or passenger, YOU
MUST sign up by entering your information in the database section
(because if you do not, we will not know you need a ride and we will
not know that you will be caravanning with us all) at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BeneficiariusMilitaribus/database?method=reportRows&tbl=5
. If you cannot make it to Kat's house on your own and need to be
picked up prior to the caravan down to the site, please let us know
directly at expeditionary at pontealto.org so we can make sure to arrange
a pick-up for you.

Accommodations:

Our best and most cost-effective option seems to be bunking in the
cabins, which are $17 for adults. As of this afternoon, there are ~70
beds left. These will be gone quickly, though, and the longer you
wait the less likely it is that we can all be grouped together. To
make your reservation, please contact Katharine de la Vache as soon as
possible. She may be reached at 910-938-5789, or via email at elgrad at hotmail.com
. YOU MUST let her know that you are with Ponte Alto. (Checks will
need to be mailed to her in advance to confirm your reservation).
Again, please let us know of your plans by entering or editing your
information in the database section at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BeneficiariusMilitaribus/database?method=reportRows&tbl=5
.

There are also rooms still available at either the Holiday Inn Express
(2115 Highway 17 North, Jacksonville, NC 28546) which is about fifteen
miles away and run about $90 per night, or you can priceline a room in
Jacksonville (recent results pricelining a two-star in Jacksonville
resulted in the Extended Stay America Jacksonville-Camp Lejeune at 20
Mcdaniel Drive in Jacsonville, NC for $55 a night which price you
might be able to also get directly by contacting them at
910-347-7684). Again, please let us know of your plans by entering or
editing your information in the database section at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BeneficiariusMilitaribus/database?method=reportRows&tbl=5
. If you need assistance locating a roommate, we can also try to help.

Food:

Friday night dinner will be whatever restaurants we agree to when we
get sufficiently hungry on the road. If you have any special dietary
needs, please let us know immediately at expeditionary at pontealto.org
so we can be certain to take them into account when we select our stops.

Sophia has kindly offered to make breakfast for everyone on Saturday
morning (thanks!), or folks can try to fend for themselves.

Saturday evening folks can choose to either be onboard at the feast
being cooked by GIANTS (Duke Valhalric, Egil, Thornberry, Robear)
which Thomas, Denise, Max, etc... are likely to attend (make sure to
send the extra money for feast in with your reservation, if
interested!) -- or those who choose our more traditional route can eat
offsite. We are currently planning on Riverside Steak & Seafood at
506 W. Corbett Ave., in Swansboro itself (http://viewfromthemountain.typepad.com/david_sobotta_weblog/2006/07/dining_along_th.html
).

On Sunday, subject to finding a Tudor's Biscuit World or similar
substitute, we'll plan on eating breakfast at Yana's Ye Olde Drug
Store & Restaurant at 119 Front Street in Swansboro (http://www.yanamamas.com/restaurant/Menu.htm
)

If you are interested in sharing a meal or two with us, please enter
your information in the database section, where you can let us know
which of the meals (Friday Dinner, Saturday Breakfast, Saturday
Offboard, Sunday Breakfast) you are interested in sharing with us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BeneficiariusMilitaribus/database?method=reportRows&tbl=5
.

As always… questions and suggestions can be directed to expeditionary at pontealto.org
