Saddle soap works well for cleaning leather, too.  And
shouldn't discolor the leather.  It gets applied just like
the mink oil Siobhan detailed.

To be fair, I've only used it on the saddlebags on my
motorcycle and my leather boots, all of which are black.

I have to agree also with Siobhan... I like my biker jacket
to be tough leather.  It's broken in quite a bit with
wearing, but it's still fairly stiff.  My chaps are softer
leather, so they're easy to move around in (and bend my
legs) while still affording better protection for spills
(and warmth!) than would denim.

Thankfully, I've never laid down any of my motorcycles.
