Here come an info from a girl who has been around leather her whole life. Saddle soap does fine when you are working on boots. Mink oil, although it is good contains silicone, and silicone will eat the leather away at one point and time. I have some "Outdoor" mink oil and that conditions and waterproofs smooth leather. I would recommend that only on serious footwear like, workboots. None of the oil, be it mink or saddle soap are good to use on suede. I have picked mine up at Target brand stores. My husband is working there and you have to do something while you are waiting for him. Just go to the shoes department and ask or look. And of course it is KIWI. If you can get true mink oil with out the silicone that would be better. Thank you for your time.

Saddle soap works well for cleaning leather, too. And
shouldn't discolor the leather. It gets applied just like
the mink oil Siobhan detailed.

To be fair, I've only used it on the saddlebags on my
motorcycle and my leather boots, all of which are black.

I have to agree also with Siobhan... I like my biker jacket
to be tough leather. It's broken in quite a bit with
wearing, but it's still fairly stiff. My chaps are softer
leather, so they're easy to move around in (and bend my
legs) while still affording better protection for spills
(and warmth!) than would denim.

Thankfully, I've never laid down any of my motorcycles.
