Marinus Baronial Investiture
of Syr Otto von Schwartskatz and Mistress Margret Eyverska
November 22, 2003
Norfolk, Virginia

Come all ye good people, friend and foe alike, to the upcoming Investiture
of our new Baron and Baroness, Syr Otto von Schwartskatz and Mistress
Margret Eyverska.
Join us for a day of frolic and festivity!

Activities
The day will see many competitions, including a subtlety competition. There
will also be a static arts display for artisans to show either finished or
in-progress works. Join the fun, display your projects, and view the
artistry of your fellow Atlantians. Leave tokens of appreciation as well as
your comments next to the works you admire to encourage the artisans to keep
developing their skills. *All* populace members are encouraged to leave a
token of appreciation.

In addition, we ask the populace to bring personal, household, and baronial
wall hangings to cover the starkness of the cinderblocks, and to bring other
hall decorations as well.

A&S Competitions
If you have any questions regarding the A&S competitions, please direct them
to Lady Kara in Danska, phone (757) 366-0543.

Subtlety Competition: Whip up your imagination and create a dessert
subtlety! Entries are not returnable; they will be consumed as part of the
feast, so every entry must be edible! Documentation is encouraged, but not
required.

Bardic Competition: This is not a performing competition. This competition
will showcase the talents of our bards to the Knowne Worlde by means of our
Baronial Website. Some or all of the entries will be published on the Barony
of Marinus website. "Permission to Publish" forms will be available at the
event. You do not have to grant permission to publish to be considered for
the competition, but we strongly encourage it.

Submit your original bardic piece in written format for display at the
event. Any format, such as song, story, poetry, or drama, is welcome. Some
short documentation is encouraged as well, for example: What inspired your
piece? What period format does it follow? etc.

Baronial-Sponsored Competitions
Best Decorated Storage Chest: You know how the story goes...you have these
great, period- looking storage chests to use at events, and they hold
everything from 2-liters to extra armor. And someday, really, you'll finish
and decorate them. Well, now's your chance!

This competition is for the finishing and decoration of a storage chest, not
for the actual construction of that chest. Therefore, purchased chests are
completely acceptable. Please plan to use your chest during the event if you
want...just sign up for the competition, and Baroness Rosine will come
around and judge your storage chest while it is in use. No chest will be
opened unless you specifically request it. Brief documentation, or even
better, a short "how-to" posted by your chest is encouraged, and will be
greatly appreciated.

Sponsored by Baroness Rosine/Hróðny Rognvaldsdottir. Prize for the best
decorated chest will be gift certificates to hardware and crafts stores!

"Bearly" Period Competition: The title is the description. Use your
imagination to interpret! No documentation required. Sponsored by Baron Arn
BiørnBassi Dansson.

Martial Competitions
Rapier: Details to be posted soon!

Heavy: Marinus is hosting the soon-to-be-notorious Ribbon Tourney. Bring
your chivalry with you!

Tentative Schedule
We will begin the day with a light repast as soon as the site opens,
followed by Her Majesty's Court at 11, during which the Baronial Last Court
and Investiture will be held. Martial activities, and A&S activities will
take place during the afternoon, as well as the first course of the feast.
Her Majesty will hold another Court in the early evening, during which
Baronial First Court will be held, followed by the second course of the
feast and dessert. Games and possibly Bardic will complete the evening.

Feast and other Fine Food
Master Thomas Longshanks and Mistress Aelfyn Gyrthsdottir will provide
delightful victuals for the morning repast as well as the afternoon and
evening courses of the feast. As all know, these illustrious chefs will
ensure bountiful and delicious food throughout the day. Marinus' best bakers
will contribute the bread for the repast and the feast. For dessert, the
subtleties in the competition will be available for consumption.

The morning repast is open to everyone, irrespective of your
on-board/off-board status, and is a time for eating and socializing with
your friends. The afternoon feast course will be served around
mid-afternoon, and the evening courses of the feast will be served about an
hour after dark. Both feast courses are open only to those who are on-board.

Beverages will be served with the meals, but will not be available between
meals.

The menus will be posted on this web site when they are final.

The site opens at 9am and closes at 10pm. Beer, wine, and mead are allowed
inside the building only, but no hard liquor. Absolutely No Original
Containers! Smoking is not allowed in the building, on the grounds, or
standing around on the parking lot. There will be designated smoking areas
please check at troll. No pets are allowed, but assistance animals are
welcome.

Please check our website for costs, reservation and staff information as
well as detailed directions.
