Noble friends,

Thursday's History Blog reported on the rediscovery of a disassembled
medieval church roof found buried under reclaimed in Holland.

The 80 wood pieces were apparently cargo from a ship that sank in the
Zuiderzee in the late 15th century. When assembled the beams and rafters
would have created the structural skeleton of a modest-sized building of
about 30 X 72 feet. Each piece has marks to allow the building to be
assembled in what has been described as an "Ikea" roof.

Curiously, the wood was actually discovered during construction in the
1980s. It was wrapped in plastic and reburied for preservation, then
forgotten.

The story is at https://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/71248 . Warning:
Turn off your computer's sound. A confusing music and voice track from an
earlier History Blog post will begin to play as soon as you open the site.

Yours Aye,
