[MR] History Blog: “Ghost” of Norse Gauntlet

Today's History Blog has a report on the discovery of a medieval iron
gauntlet found during an Oslo excavation.

What makes the discovery noteworthy is that the location was part of Oslo's
harbor during the middle ages. The gauntlet was found with a metal
detector, but the glove is so deteriorated it is little more than a rusty
ghost image in the soil.

The site has also yielded daggers and swords. Although battles were fought
in the harbor, it seems to archaeologists that the weaponry was dumped into
the sea, possibly after being confiscated by customs officials.
