Noble Friends, Especially Vikings,

According to BBC Scotland, a viking longship knocked out power in the
Scottish Lowland town of Kirkcudbright on Friday.

The longship was on display during celebrations for a visit of the Galloway
viking treasure hoard. While being moved to a display event at a primary
school, the ship's mast became entangled in some very modern power lines.
Another viking victory, but one of which the ship's crewmembers are not
particularly proud.

The story, with some very nice photos of the longship and a contrite
portrait of the garbed boat chief, can be found at
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-58845857 .

The longship is owned by a re-enactment group known as Regia Angelorum. The
group's web site includes more on their ships, photos of a great mead hall,
and their many activities (including as extras in Game Of Thrones):
https://regia.org .

Finally, there's that Galloway viking hoard, which was the root of all this
fuss. Warning: the National Museums' web page is graphics-heavy and slow to
load, but well worth the wait:

.

Wikipedia also has a page on the treasure:

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
