Noble Friends, Especially Vikings:

Yesterday the History Blog reported that the longest Viking ship ever
discovered will go on display at the National Museum in Copenhagen this
June.

Known as the Roskilde 6, the ship is one of nine Viking and medieval
vessels that were sunk in Roskilde harbor as defensive barriers during the
middle ages. The ship is positively huge for its time, 123 feet long. Only
about a quarter of the ship survives. It has been dated by tree rings to
have been built some time after 1025, and shows repairs with wood dated to
about 15 years larter.

The History Blog story is at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/60885 .

Ironically, Roskilde 6 and its companions were discovered during expansion
at the waterside Viking Ship Museum at Roskilde, Denmark. The museum
already displayed five earlier Viking ships raised from nearby Skuldelev:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_Ship_Museum_(Roskilde) . The museum's
own website has a number of other interesting articles and many photos at
https://www.vikingeskibsmuseet.dk/en/ .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
