Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

Last night the Smithsonian Channel's documentary program MYSTIC BRITAIN
kicked off a new season with "The Lost Tribe of Scotland". This was a very
interesting program about the Picts, but light-hearted with lots of jokes
and dry comments by the two presenters, Mary Anne and her somewhat hapless
partner Clive. It even included a "guest appearance" by some Vikings in one
of their longships. The show will be rebroadcast tonight at 7:00, at least
on my cable provider, and presumably it will be available at that time to
anyone who can pick up The Smithsonian Channel.

Although many shows from the first season were about stuff from before our
SCA period, they were still fun and would be of interest to most history
geeks like us (and they are frequently rebroadcast). Topics have included
Stonehenge, The Rollright Stones, English mummies, witches, revenants (the
undead), and Hadrian's Wall. Not only are the programs enlivened by Clive
and Mary Anne, they often feature serious commentary by anthropologists,
archaeologists, historians, etc., and frequently include visits to living
history museums. If you are not yet a fan of the show, you will probably be
hooked once you see an episode.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
