Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

On this date in 1570, James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray and Regent of
Scotland for James VI, was assassinated in Stirling.

Moray commanded Protestant forces during the brief civil war which ousted
Mary Queen of Scots and sent her into English exile and captivity. He came
down particularly hard on the Hamiltons, who had refused to capitulate.
Moray was shot by James Hamilton of Bothwellhaug with a carbine while the
Earl was riding through Stirling Town, apparently the first recorded
assassination by firearms.

You can read more about Moray at

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
