Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

King of the Scots, Robert the Bruce died on this date in 1329. Against 
overwhelming odds, The Bruce redeemed Scottish independence from 
England, sealed by a decisive victory at the Battle of Bannockburn in

History isn't pretty, and The Bruce (or his followers) killed rival 
claimant to the throne John Comyn during a parlay in the Greyfriars 
Church, Dumfries. This led to a brutal civil war against the Comyn 
family, in which they were all but eliminated. King Robert also invaded 
Ireland, supposedly to free it from English domination. The campaign 
failed following his brother Edward Bruce's death in battle.
