Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Archers,

On this date in 1346, a large French army was defeated by a smaller
English force led by Edward III, King of England, at the Battle of Crécy
during the Hundred Years' War. This battle was won largely by the
careful positioning of the English army on a field of their choice, and
by English archers using the yew longbow with devastating effect. Crécy
established the tactical superiority (and fame) of longbow-heavy armies,
though Edward had already tested his archers in two major battles
against the Scots.

You can read about the battle at

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Archer of Mallard Lodge
