Noble Friends,

On this date in 1516 Hieronymus Bosch, Dutch painter, died in Oirschot,
Netherlands. Bosch is best known for his bizarre (some would say
"nightmarish") paintings of Hell and its punishments. Chief among these
is "The Garden of Earthly Delights". Really creepy stuff, but many of
his works were intended as altar pieces and might be seen as cautionary.
He and his studio also painted more mainline religious works. Bosch's
paintings have sometimes been interpreted as influenced by the Cathars
or Adamites. He was, however, an extremely orthodox Catholic, and was a
member of a respected lay organization known as the Brotherhood of Our Lady.

You can read more about Hieronymus Bosch and see some of his best known
works at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hieronymus_Bosch

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
