Noble Friends,

On this date in 1503, James IV, King of Scots, married Margaret Tudor.
Margaret was the daughter of Henry VII of England, and sister of
soon-to-be king Henry VIII. The marriage brought several years of uneasy
peace between Scotland and England. All this ended when James invaded
England to support the French in 1513 and got himself killed at the
Battle of Flodden. Out of respect for his now-dowager sister, Henry VIII
continued a generally peaceful policy toward Scotland until her death in
1541. After that, all restraint ended.

It was this marriage that gave James the VI a clam on the English crown,
and led to him assuming the English throne as James I in 1603.

Here is a brief biography of James IV:

And Margaret is discussed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Tudor

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
