NEVER TRUST A BARONY OVER 30!
Sacred Stone is turning 31 and the Barony is going on vacation to Morocco!
This vacation even includes the Arts & Sciences competitions…. All of the
A&S competitions are based on the ancient walled oasis of Sijilmasa.
Sijilmasa was a medieval Moroccan city and trade entrepôt at the northern
edge of the Sahara Desert in Morocco. From the time of the Great Berber
Revolt until 1353, Sijilmasa was a mainstay in Moroccan and Berber culture.
*Leather and Jewelry Competition
*Berber artwork contained many pieces of jewelry and leather, so we will be
having jewelry and leather competition. Any leather-worked pieces or
jewelry pieces can be entered and bonus points will be given to
leather-worked jewelry! Documentation is requested and graded, but not
required.
*Non-Alcoholic Drink Competition*
Temperatures in August in Morocco can easily go over 100 degrees
Fahrenheit, so it is extremely important to stay hydrated. In an effort to
be hydrated in a fun way, there will be a non-alcoholic drink competition.
Each entrant is asked to provide at least a gallon (minimum) of a drink
which will be on display behind a ‘walled’ area in the picnic shelter. The
winner of the competition will be determined by populace vote! So everyone
should come by and have a taste! Each entry must have a listing of
ingredients (to avoid any allergy issues).
*Poetry Competition *sponsored by the Poeta Atlantiae*
*While this competition will accept any period style of poetry, regardless
of nationality, all entries should be themed around an oasis. You can be as
creative with this theme as you would like, but it is a requirement for
entry. Documentation is requested and graded, but not required. You do not
have to be present to enter and can send your entry with a friend to be
entered.
*Silent Auction Competition
*Last, Sijilmasa was a trade city where merchandise can be imported and
exported without paying import duties. As a fundraising competition, the
artisans of the Barony (and beyond) are encouraged to bring a handmade item
of their creation to sell in a silent auction. All moneys collected will be
used for Baronial Regalia and the item that brings the highest amount will
win a special prize befitting the event. Items should be completed works
and individuals are encouraged to “hock their wares” like a true medieval
marketplace!
There will be ample display space as well if your projects don’t fit into
the competitions! Bring out what you have and we’ll show it off for you!
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Seigneur Etienne Le Mons d’Anjou
