We know that you are champing at the bit to learn more about the theme for
Chalice of the Sun God X. Nine years previous have we honored the gods and
goddesses of classical mythology, and this year, we shine our attention on
Apollo, son of Leto and Zeus, and twin of Artemis. His symbols are the
laurel tree, the tripod, the lyre (a stringed instrument), and the dolphin.

Apollo, also called Phoebus and Helios (though there is some debate whether
they were alternate names or separate deities), was tasked with driving his
chariot across the sky, bringing light to the world. He had a mortal son,
Phaethon, who begged his father to let him drive the chariot one day.
Eventually, Apollo relented, but Phaethon was unable to control the horses,
and they caused a great amount of damage, until Zeus let loose a bolt of
lightning. Phaethon fell from the chariot and was killed, the horses
splashed into the sea. Never again did Apollo let anyone else drive the
chariot.
