Noble friends,
I recently stumbled across this site:
http://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/rcbcmuseums.nsf/Web?ReadForm&id=F1365DBB7CFCC2EA80257816003F0EFA
. The site shows artifacts, excavation videos, and text about a Saxon
graveyard found on the Street House Farm, and now exhibited in the
Kirkleathham Museum. The graveyard is notable for its Saxon bed burial
of a young woman, shown in reconstruction. The jewelry and other
artifacts are quite striking, and will be of great interest to jewelers,
costumers, and anyone who does Saxon culture. Also note the related
links at right which lead to other interesting historical sites,
including Gisborough Priory and Winkies Castle (a near-by living history
museum).
If you would care to learn more about Saxon bed graves, try these
Wikipedia sites:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_House_Anglo-Saxon_cemetery
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_burial#List_of_Anglo-Saxon_bed_burials
There's enough stuff here to keep you busy for an hour or two. ;-)
Yours Aye,
Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
