I agree with Aedan. Nobody even witnessed it. Let's not jump to conclusions and apply non-existant context to a situation no one witnessed in the first place.
Let's not forget a few things here:
1. The most innocent, benign comment can be taken out of context and someone can get offended by it or misunderstand the intent.
2. Calling someone up on their real or imagined lack of courtesy is rude in and of itself. In fact, it's usually a worse offense than the real or imagined offense that spawned it.
3. Unless a person was there, they have no business stepping in to "correct" the situation.
4. Class and manners is not something that can be legislated.
Everyone here has control of one person and one person only: their own selves. Let's learn from this and everyone take away the lesson to be mindful of what they say. Although it would be period, I don't think we need to form an angry, pitchfork and torch waving mob and go on a monster hunt. ;-)
