[MR] a few words about Crown Tourney

well since the ice has been broken i will add to what his grace has said.
as another old fat duke who has enjoyed fighting in crown tourneys over the
years there is little that compares. it is the only tourney in which you
can compete that actually has something to be gained in the end. all
tourneys can bring you renown. all tourneys can bring you chances to test
your prowess, your courage, your skill, and your heart. but this tourney
brings with it a chance to gift the kingdom with new heirs. i won my first
crown as an unbelted fighter. the atlantian crown has been won three times
by unbelted fighters (first was duke galmr, then myself, and then duke
ragnarr) and it is a tough list. but the joy of being able to give the
kingdom a new princess, and later a queen, is something that is difficult to
describe.
polish your kits up and add to the history of a proud and wonderful kingdom.
win or lose you will bring honor to your consort and inspire all those who
witness your deed. there is nothing that compares to that feeling.
regards

I thought I'd add my two cents to this as well. I started fighting in Crown
Tournaments as an unbelt in 1991 (yea, so I'm getting old) I fought as an
unbelt, I fought as a knight, and I fought, and fought, and fought.
As some of you remember, I finally won my first crown tournament in Atlantia
in 2000. I think I fought in 16 Crown Tournaments before I finally managed
to
win one.
Crown Trounaments are the best fighting a person can find. They are
generally,
the most honorable, hardest, and fastest fights that this sport has to
offer.
You can learn something in every fight.
Going two and out is NOT an embarrasment to ANY lady you chose to fight
for....
it is a badge of honor that they can hold with them forever that someone
felt
that they were worthy of the honor of Queen (King) no matter the chances of
winning.
Not only that, but look guys, old, fat Dukes like myself can sweat our way
through 5 fights... but the larger the field of fighters, the more tired we
get... we're not as fit as we used to be. The more fighters, the more
chances
for the young and speedy ;)
Just my 2 cents from far away....
