Although brought up in jest, Courtesans have a unique and storied place in history from the 1400's to 1800's. 

 In the West Kingdom only last summer there was a class for Ladies who wanted true Courtesan training! Lessons given in singing, instruments, poetry or dramatic prose, as well as period dancing to entertain those exclusive clients who could afford such entertainment. Courtesans held a higher standard above just physical beauty. I can respect any woman who uses such techniques, and yes you are correct this would be an unusual method of fund raising whether for charity or some other necessity.
