No matter how correct or well meaning an idea might be, there's gonna be a
squad of folks against it..
I've thought for years that establishing "permanent" sites was the way to
go. If each area could find one such site, then life would be better for
everyone. I know that I really enjoy going to events where the site remains
the same over time. Makes it easier to plan for and can be a constant
reminder of good times past.
Regarding Rebecca's argument about an outside group losing another groups
site, to my knowledge it's only happened once. Windmaster's Hill took over
an Attillium event at the boy scout camp in White Oak. They botched it so
badly that at 10 pm on Friday night I got a call from the camp ranger about
whether he should throw them out or not.. The SCA was banned from that site
for a long time because of really bad communication, worse implementation,
and a healthy dash of "we've paid for this site, so shut up and get out of
our way." The moral of that tale being that you should choose your staff
carefully and always maintain good relations with the site personnel....
Truly good sites are few and far between. When we find one they should be
utilized as much as possible. Particularly with Kingdom events, a constant
site adds a sense of continuity and organization that you just don't get
any other way. I think Their Majesties have the right idea.
