I do and I am of a similar mindset myself. (Likewise
Pel and Laurel)

This is a really good point and one I hadn't
considered. Usually the screaming that results drowns
out any rational point like this and I will have to
ponder it.
I will say that I approach the whole "What have they
done to aid the army?/What do they know of fighting?"
as more of the General "are they well rounded."
It is very, very easy to meet this requirement in my
worldview and really is hardly neccessary for
discussion by the time someone comes up for peerage
discussion.
For instance, these are simple things I can think of
off the top of my head:
Waterbearing, Moling, Marshalling, setting up/breaking
down a tourney field/list set up, transporting
figthers, hosting a fighting event, making banners,
pennants, surcoats...the list goes on and and on.
:-)
I have my personal preferences and I know that the SCA
is not MY SCA. But I would like to think that we are
all one community, working together. I can dream that
at least.
