I don't think it's unfair to ask peers of any stripe (self included) to
have some knowledge of the most common SCA activities, and armored combat
is certainly among those. As has been pointed out already, one can
*support* fighting in a number of ways, and one can have a decent
knowledge about armored combat, without actually getting inside the eric
and fighting.

As a tourney herald and more generally as someone who likes to learn
stuff, I've picked up a fair bit of knowledge about combat in my time,
though it's kinda rusty right now. I could certainly put on armor and
learn how to defend myself (and even maybe deliver a few shots), but out
in actual combat I'd be a standing duck. I've watched footwork, both in
drills and practice and in actual combat. If I tried that *in armor* I'd
hurt myself. (My ankles walked out on me a dozen years ago.)

Nevertheless, I'm always looking to learn more stuff, and if someone wants
to teach various levels of armored combat for non-fighters and also how
to *watch* combat to get more out of it, that'd be cool.

Evan
