[MR] gift giving and A&S judging

I don't know about the particular person who was
ungrateful for their scroll, but I have always been
proud to get even a scroll that was Xeroxed off and
colored in. If anyone thinks that making scrolls is
easy, I suggest you take up the scroll backlog and try
it.
That being said, Sadly, so many people nowadays are
spoiled rotten brats and think they are OWED
everything and if they don't get their way, they can
go after people for it in a mean-spirited, cowardly
way. All my scrolls, plain and fancy, are framed on
my wall. Not only for myself, but out of respect to
the person who devoted their time and talents to it.
This goes for all gifts and tokens.

However, on another topic, speaking of tokens reminds
me of something else. I believe that if you are
judging an A&S event, you should bow out for prize
consideration. Even if you are judging, say cordials
and you enter in, some handmade garb, the fact that
the other judges know you, gives you at least the
perception that you have an unfair, favorable bias
toward your entry. I know this will open a can of
worms, but it has been grumbled about a lot lately that
judges are taking home the top A&S prizes and this
discourages less skilled artisans. Even though folks
are supposed to be judged per their skill level, I
still see it happening. Gwynwilf
