I am moved to comment by the sincere and earnest discussion of the subject
of elevations.

If I am ever so blessed and honored to be offered elevation to the Order
of the Laurel, I would prefer that the surprise be in the presentation of
a Writ, and sufficient time to collect friends and family for the actual
elevation. My reasons stretch back <gasp> 20 years and the elevation of
Sir Volodya to the Knighthood.

In this case, there was no surprise, but with the notice, a spectacular
ceremony was created by family and friends, with specially composed music.
I deeply believe that such an honor should be accompanied by processions,
ceremonies, pomp and circumstance equal to the honor. These are singular
achievements, and I believe that the occasion should reflect this.

The peculiar aspect of this is that I was not able to be present for this,
which occurred at Pensic. I was not medically cleared to travel after the
birth of my son. But the event was so lovingly described, with pictures
and reencatments of the musical portions, that I felt as if I had been
there. To this day, I still hear peoples' recollections of the day - it
made a deep impression on those present.

I thank you for allowing me to offer my humble reasons in favor of
ensuring the full participation of all interested in such elevations.

In service,
