Am I correct in the assumption that I make that if I'm unable to rise
or curtsey due to physical limitations that a polite head nod (if I'm
sitting) or a bow instead of a curtsy (if I'm already standing) is
reasonable?

There are days when the spirit is willing to embrace the game, but the
flesh (in this case the knees) just says "Sorry.. that's not going to
happen today.. and tomorrow isn't looking good either".
