Greetings,
I have tried to teach a class on Who, What and Why of the SCA to my local newcomers. I do it usually the month before a big event that I know there will be a court.
I have our local Baron and Baroness (if available ) to participate. We have a mock court, go over awards and what the medallion looks like, terms of address, what different crowns look like, and let anyone ask any questions that they may be embarrassed to otherwise. Old and new tend to learn something that they didn't know before.
Doing this before your local event helps newcomers feel more comfortable. Many are nervous when they are called into court for their first event and do not know what to do. This gives them a practice run.
My 2 Cents,
Baroness Sunniva Kyrre
