Having been a bouncer for a stretch of three years, and never having been in a fight in my life. I adhere to the Ten Commandments of Bouncing found at http://www.bouncersbible.com . As the "Doc" says, If you have to fight, you have already failed. These are the same principles I used while I was a Firefighter/EMT for six years, even through some very hairy situations. Being prepared is good, but never having to use the knowledge is even better.

Specifically, for that quote, "Pool Cues, Beer Bottles, and Baseball
Bats", subtitled "Animal's guide to improvised weaponry". Excellent
book. Like any good Fechtmeister, he points out that (a) fighting
hurts, even if you win, (b) getting hurt sucks, so does going to jail,
and (c) Situational awareness will frequently keep you from having to
deal with (a) and (b).
