[MR] Spreading the word: Minor Medical Authorization requirements

Greetings
I have to ask the same questions as Herveus, out of curiosiry. I don't think it comes from Society as how could they enforce that in a foreign country that may not have a notarisation system like we do.

I have noticied a lot more paperwork for minors in general in our organization compared to Scouts, school sports, school/church trips out of state, martial arts classes, and just about every activity my children and their friends are involved in outside the SCA. None of them require notarizing of forms, in fact some of the forms are interchangable from one organization to another.(Like sports physicals.) If someone other then a parent signs a paper, they are the one held libel.

It often appears that we are re inventing the wheel when there are already people driving chariouts around (Damn Romans). There are very good organizations out there for kids that do things a lot easier, and still don't get sued. As a parent it seems to me that the Society/Kingdom are trying to discourage me from getting my kids and their friends involved. This trend concerns me.

Think about it. I can sign one form and get a sports physical for my son to train and compete in wrestling. Wrestling is just as hazordous as fensing or heavy fighting. Neither form has to be notarised. The Coach has a set of parameters from the school of what he can and can't do. If the Coach steps outside those parameters that coach is libel. The Coach can then train my child, take them out of the area for tournaments, and if the child is injured the EMS system has the right and obligation by the state to do life saving measures for the welfare of the child. Once in a ER even a parent cannot stop life saving measures for a child, that is universal in all states.

So I am confused, why are we exsperiancing this paperwork trend for minors?

  Howdy!

I understand Morag and Olwen's concerns. However, that doesn't
really speak to my question, which is: where was the requirement for
notarization generated? At the corporate level or in Atlantia?

I've never had to provide such a document to the Boy Scouts on
  behalf of my sons.

I just don't understand why the notary attestation is mandatory. I
certainly do not suggest that wanting to have the form you execute
for your children, or that you carry on behalf of someone else, be
  notarized is a bad thing.

  yours for reduction in paperwork,
  Herveus
