>> Was this at a society level? Because it certainly has
never been an issue in the three other kingdoms that I've
lived in.

The Society Chronicler policy was in fact to put the paper
copies of the kingdom newsletters at a timely advantage.
The notion that other kingdoms might not have complied with
the policy doesn't surprise me. During my years as policy
maker for the Society's electronic publications I saw a
great deal of discrepancies.

>> If it's kingdom policy, it's silly. The purpose of a
website is to get the most information out possible, not to
hide it to force people to get the paper pub.

I find the generalization of this statement to be too
sweeping. I think neither that the purpose of every web
site is to provide as much as possible, nor that our kingdom
is producing them to force anyone to do anything.

>> It maybe be par for the course for a person to have to
search all over creation for event information in Atlantia,
but that's not useful for a new SCA person, or somebody new
to the kingdom.

Frankly, I find this statement to be insulting to the myriad
of volunteers that work diligently within the policies that
they're given. The policies exist for a reason, and no
amount of slights on a kingdom mailing list will change
them. These concerns should be respectfully submitted to
the Society Chronicler who, if convinced, would need to
submit the policy changes to the Board of Directors for
approval.

>> But I'm less than thrilled if, by policy, the Kingdom
Twelfth Night Website was not accessible from the Kingdom
website until December 1st.

Publications policy in Atlantia states that events get two
months of advertising (fliers) - the month before the event
and the month of the event. Kingdom events get three
months' worth. The local group can pay for advertising in
additional months by paying the Acorn's advertising rates
(which if I recall, are not that much).

By this reckoning, you would not see information about
Kingdom Twelfth Night on the kingdom web site until after
the November Acorn was delivered. In some cases, there
might be a little delay depending on the current workload of
our kingdom web minister.

I would like to suggest that every complaint aired on this
mailing list about the kingdom web site to be addressed to
the kingdom web minister by name. Therefore, your
statements should more properly read, "I'd be less than
thrilled if, by policy, Lord Gruffudd ap Cadfael didn't
update the website..." or "I notice that Lord Gruffudd ap
Cadfael hasn't updated the Acorn on-line since November,
2002." Because, that's what you're doing. It may make all
of us feel better to attack a web page and not a person, but
I can guarantee that Lord Gruffudd knows the difference.

Thankfully, there is a silent majority that is grateful for
the long hours he puts into this job for the benefit of many
offices, not just the chroniclers. There is also a
supportive minority that understands just how much he does,
and encourages him to continue in the face of such slights.

>> Cheers,
>> Mathilde

You've mentioned that you've lived in other kingdoms, and
have only recently moved here. In that case, welcome to
Atlantia. I hope that you get to know us as well as we've
gotten to know you.
