Right.

In Short, there is no definitive "How many signatures does it take?" number out there.  So all we can do is estimate based upon the evidence presented...

If there were 2000 in favor, no question it would pass
1500, virtually certain
1000, given that there are about 2000 paid members, it'd be very likely
800, Most would argue was enough, but Laurel would have grounds to disagree if he really wanted to
500, I would argue was enough, but I wouldn't be surprised if I lost
200, not terribly likely

As for the "It's a badge" argument...it appears that Laurel has stated that is not the case, that support must be demonstrated, so rather than argue the minutae (sp?) of "Does the Arms of a Queen represent the Kingdom?" (which would be terribly exciting to some Heralds, and terribly boring to the rest of us), we should just do the polling over, get the results, and go with it.  What direction we went would be a function of the results of said polling.
