[MR] Heraldry Question

I confess to my ignorance of heraldry (I haven't gotten to it yet), but I 
wonder if anyone would be able to tell me what the following means:

Argent, six horse shoes pierced, sable

In my genealogy research, these are the arms of an ancestor, Henry de 
Ferrars, a commissioner who helped with the Domesday Book.
