OK, stupid Mungoe question time.
How can the BoD make rules and descisions stick in other countries/states?
For instance I know that the laws pertaining to minors participating in contact sports and martial arts with adults are way differant here in Virginia, N. Carolina, and S. Carolina then in California. Janine, our resident lawyer, looked into that very heavy. However it appears we are being held to California's laws pertaining to "Boffer" fighting and minor authorization. Why can't each Kingdom go with the laws within their own state, and or country? Even if we screw up and break a law in Virginia, we would not be prosicuted or have a lawsuit brought against the Society under California law, but Virginia.
Also what about other countries? If this Count had been Banished in say Drakenvald, how would the BoD have enforced it if the Kingdom desided to go it's own way, and let him play under a "dispensation"?
Yes, I am a poor uneducated Irishman easily confused by English tricks of Law. Perhaps my brother Hrothgar the Wiley could explain. (By the way, how is the lame horse, my brother?)

Yes, I'll have to agree that Aveloc's webpage is just a wee bit biased. You're only hearing his side of the story and should perhaps get other views before forming an opinion on the subject. However, just because it is biased doesn't necessarily prevent it from being true.
As to "overwhelming evidence", I don't think there is anything beyond hearsay and half truths put forth as most of the charges by the BoD. My real concern with this issue is less about one man's R&D than with the way in which the BoD does business. The way things are set up at present, the BoD doesn't need to have any real reason for tossing someone out other than the fact that they just decide that is what they want to do. There is no appeals process. There is no system whereby someone can challenge the decisions of the board. I see that as a potential problem for any of us.
The things for which he was accused were presented, in large part, by second and third hand witnesses. Several things have been refuted by the people involved in the incidents. The reality of the situation is that the board began an "investigation" after Aveloc began to make loud (and apparently frightening to the BoD) noises about changing the way things are done.
The Pennsic Accord was an attempt for the members of the SCA to gain some control over the BoD. It was a gathering of all of the Royalty of the Knowne Worlde (I believe of all of the Royals at Pennsic, only the King of Trimaris didn't sign) in agreement that board members should be chosen by the kingdoms and that there should be some input into the decisions made by the BoD. As it now stands, the only power that effects the board is the board. They are self perpetuating and ultimately only have to answer to themselves. Seems inherently wrong to me.
I know Aveloc. I've fought against him, fought with him, and fought near him quite a few times over the years. I've never seen him do anything unchivalrous or dishonorable. A number of complaints lodged against him by the BoD stemmed from the last Gulf Wars. I was there for that and was an eye witness to several of the incidents in the BoD's charges. I can tell you with certainty that the way the incidents are relayed in the charges are not the manner in which they occurred. I can't say he is without sin, but I can tell you that the Meridies marshals presented an extraordinarily slanted recounting of the events involving Aveloc.
The guy was railroaded and never given a real opportunity to defend himself from any of the allegations. They spent at least 5 months on their witch hunt and gave him just ten days over Christmas to snail mail them a hard copy of his side of things.
This has far less to do with whether the guy is a jerk than with the fact that he is extremely charismatic and was stirring up the membership to take power away from the BoD. That's the part that bothers me most in all of this. If they can R&D him, they can do it to any of us.
