Lord Gorm,
My neighbor, I fear I must take issue with your statement that
what An Tir does not affect Atlantia.
Much of the BoDs purpose, besides dealing with the unpleasant parts of
the game and the modern responsibilities of a corporation, is to make
sure "the Game" is played basically the same here as it is in all parts
of the Society. No we do all have to do everything the same but the
point of being organized is to ensure the basic rules and traditions are
the same. Some examples of this would be: as it currently works if you
are a Duke in An Tir you are still a Duke in Atlantia. If you have an
award in one kingdom you have that same award (especially if it is a
Peerage, GOA or AOA) in another Kingdom. There are other things which
travel from Kingdom to Kingdom but that is just a few.
Bare with me if you will while I give you a for instance. A
fighter in An Tir wins a War Crown and completes a Reign, he is a Count.
Said Count then gets transferred by his company to Atlantia. (This is
becoming more and more common for people to continue to play after
relocation from one Kingdom to another.) Our An Tirian Count then fights
in an Atlantian Crown. Lets say for lack of arguments sake he has been
in the Kingdom 2 years, which more then meets the required residency in
Atlantian Law. Let us say Our An Tirian Count is aware of the feeling of
the Kingdom on how a Crown should be run. The Count tries his best, has
a really good day and wins Crown. The Sunday after his Coronation he has
a mini-Curia, which is not particularly unusual. At his curia the New
King repeals the Atlantian Law saying all of our Crowns must be
single-combat. (Note: Although a Curia is a forum for the populace to
state their opinions the Crown does not need populace approval to change
a law.) The Tuesday after the Curia he announces, via the Merry Rose,
what his requirements for his Crown Tourney will be and it is a War
Crown. You may not like it, it may go against all the traditions of
Atlantia, he may not have very many people participate in his tourney,
but guess what, it is his tourney and as Corpora sits now he is not
violating any of its policies. I personally view the proposed changes to
Corpora by the BoD as a stop gap to eliminate the possibly of this
instance becoming a reality. You say well no King would go against he
Kingdom like that. This maybe true, but in the King's mind a war crown is
perfectly normal and it is the single-combat which is odd. And thus this
is how traditions, both good and bad cross Kingdom borders.
InterKingdom Anthropology is a very interesting subject but at least we
all have some basic references on what as Kingdom and how a King is
chosen. Single combat is single combat, whether double elimination,
single elimination, best 2 out of 3, round robin, magic, bear pit or any
other of a mired of tourney combinations. I chose to support the
proposed change (and have told the BoD so). I chose to be secure in the
knowledge in Trimaris, Drachenwald or anywhere else there is the SCA the
Crown Tournaments there will have the basic feel of a Crown Tournament in
Atlantia.
