[MR] Coronation Curia - New Orders?

Greetings!

The order names are the same as names Atlantia already has registered as
Heraldic Titles. It's becomming traditional to name Heraldic Titles after
Order Names. Thus we have the Golden Dolphin Herald, Laurel Queen of Arms,
Pelican Herald, etc.

To register existing Heraldic Titles would seem to be a quick way of getting
the order names through. And also to reserve them, so others don't register
in future.

That said, I don't like Manatee, either as a Heraldic or Order title, as
it's too new world.

Narwhal might be a neat name for the rapier crowd, though. ;-)

The Bar to Pearl and Laurel *appears* to move. But it does not actually
move all that much.

All of what I write below is *my* opinion. And may or may not be shared by
other members of polling orders.

The reason the bar may *appear* to move, is thus.

Let's say Lady Jane is elevated to the Order of the Pearl for new and
groundbreaking work on how to cook hedgehogs. She's done original research,
taught classes, translated and redacted recipies, and served yummy hedgehogs
at feasts. All well and good.

Now Lord John has taken some of Lady Jane's classes. He, too, cooks yummy
hedgehogs. Even though he's cooking the same number of hedgehogs, and his
recipies are just as yummy, he's also starting from a different level of
knowledge than Lady Jane. He didn't do the same amount of work, even though
his end product is identical.

If he did the same amount of work in documenting how to cook pigeons, he'd
most likely be looked at in the same light as Lady Jane.

It's similar, in some instances, for the Service Orders. If Lord Bob held
the Office of Minister of Lists and created a database from scratch, and
made the whole Lists process painless, he might be considered more than
someone who came after him and served the same length of time, but inherited
his wonderful system.

And remember, even if every single member of the Order polled an
enthusiastic YES, the Crown still must act. Sometimes timing gets in the
way. Some times circumstances prevent things happening in a timely manner.

The only truely private information about polling orders is the Watch List
and Pollings. The rest isn't really private.

So if you're curious about HOW things work, please ask. And remember my
earlier post on how to write award recommendations. Your friend Lady June
may not ever be noticed if you don't bring her to the attention of the Crown
and the Order Principal. They aren't omnicient. (The number of times a
member of an ORDER has recommended an addition to the watch list, when we
thought the person was ALREADY A MEMBER is astonishing! Don't assume. Send
a letter!)

When Ana Ilevna was elevated to the Order of the Laurel, she stated that she
wanted her medallion to be an invitation, not a barrier. I wholeheartedly
agree.
