Lady Jocetta and others in the Tavern,
Those around you are your friends, your companions and
your brothers & sisters-in-arms. In any tragedy,
people come together in their social groups to provide
comfort and to discuss. This week this country
experienced a loss so great, that few have the
emotional resources to deal with it. That is one
reason that people must be allowed to speak here.
The other is this. This was no simple tragedy, no act
of nature. This was an act of war. The concept of
war on our soil is so foreign that I am just now
coming to grips with it. There are no tanks in our
streets, no enemy planes overhead, but it is war
nonetheless.
Lords and ladies, we have been attacked. We have lost
a grievous number of lives. Right now our President
is weighing options, and with the resources available
to leaders of this country, his options are limited by
only one thing: and that is the people.
We as a country must come together, in the streets, in
the office, at home and on this very list and decide
now, going forward what we are willing to accept. As
it stands now, we are on a course where more blood
will be shed to protect our freedom. I for one have
thought long and hard about this eventuality, and have
decided that I am willing to see body bags coming off
an Air Force plane.
Yesterday, President Bush was handed a badge of a
fallen NY city police officer. His grieving widow had
only just in the last hour hear of her husbands death.
I hope that President Bush lays that badge on his
desk. I hope that anytime he is tired, any time his
resolve is weakened, that he look to that badge, as we
look to our flag now.
You say it is loud here. It should be my lady. It
should be. Discussion in all venues is what turns
anger into resolve. We will need this resolve in the
months, and perhaps years to come. Lady Jocetta,
give the tavern time. It will quiet down, but now is
not that time. Now bold speeches must be given, the
souls of men and women must be touched, for in this
country it is OUR will that propels war, and that will
must be strong.
