If you have such a heater and are concerned - besides having it checked for
leaks every year, buy a CO monitor - they are not expensive (and how to you
put a price tag on your life?!) and are easily available.
Everyone should also have CO monitors in their homes as well. And check
your fire alarm batteries regularly. If you have a fire extinguisher, be
sure to tip it over once a month to redistribute the powder. If you do not
have one, you should really consider it for the kitchen - the refillable
ones can be as inexpensive as $25.
