[Archers] Atlatl in Atlantia

I’m good with this as well. So sounds like the rules need an update to state”, the Atlatl line shall consist of a box 3 feet deep to allow movement while throwing but the thrower must end up straddling the line for final throw?” or something like that?

Siegfried of the sore arm had a good point that the final step for atlatlist be that they throw while straddling the line. This would accommodate those that do the hop, skip and jump to throw. And, as Siegfried of the sore arm pointed out an atlatl "weapon" does not "mis-fire" until the arm is actually moving forward at which point they should be straddling the line.

Janyn,

Just a thought. Myself, like many atlatlist step into our shot. Should the perhaps the atlatl " line" be a zone I which the atlatlist must remain for the throw. I.e. a three foot zone defined by two lines.

Just a thought,

Good evening my Brothers and Sisters of the Bow (and now the Atlatl.) Today again I saw the fruits of our labor with Atlatl and the rules we have set in place. I am convinced we did the right thing and are on the correct course with our thinking. Scores are starting to show up and they are right in line with where I expected them to be. Seeing even our seasoned throwers tells me that our course and scoring are set correctly, again we will give this a year to play out as we discussed. Also I have been asked by a few people so I thought I would discuss the topic here. There is no set rule governing the requirements for darts. There is no length requirement or specifics for materials or construction. All I would ask is that you participate with the “spirit of the game” in mind and we participate with honor and what we know of the equipment in mind.

The other thing I just wanted to reiterate to all of our marshal’s is to please be diligent with running the line. I witnessed today a few occasions where a thrower would throw the dart and in the process of their shot, move up a bit and then throw again each time moving up into the range. I think I was doing the same thing when I threw. I just want to make sure the lines are kept equally and our throwers are kept safe, so please pay extra attention to the line while we all gain experience with this addition to our game. I want to thank you all again for the conversations, the suggestions and to all of you who took your own time to help setup practice ranges so people could try what we were preposing prior to the final decision.

In Service,

Janyn
