Noble friends,

Wonderful news! Restoration has begun on the famous medieval arch at
Scone (pronounced "scoon") Palace. The arch was destroyed by a lorry
about 18 months ago. Here is a short BBC film clip on the work:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-17664681 . There is also a print
story with the video, which includes before-and-after photos of the
arch: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-17657503 .

Scone is famous for the coronation stone, The Stone of Scone or Stone of
Destiny, upon which many early Scottish kings were crowned. It was
carried off by Edward I in 1296 and all English monarchs since his son
Edward II were crowned upon it. Some believe the Stone of Scone is
actually a fake, substituted by the Scots, who then mislaid the real
one. Who knows. In any case, what is generally taken as the real Stone
of Scone is back in Scotland, safely tucked away since 1996 with the
Honors of Scotland in Edinburgh castle.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Proud Scot
