Noble friends,
Here follows a brief proposal for the aims of the incipient Atlantian
fletchers' guild. Your comments and ideas are most welcome.
1. To promote arrow building and archery in general throughout Atlantia.
2. To teach the arts of arrow building and related crafts to all who are
interested, informally, or through Atlantia University and other
official kingdom or local activities.
3. To encourage members to research historic information on arrow
smithing and fletching.
4. To improve the quality of our arrows through classes, shared
knowledge, and competitions in conjunction with kingdom and local A&S
programs.
5. To gain Royal and baronial recognition for arrow making as an
advancement toward honors such as the King's Missiliers and Yew Bow
orders, and possibly to seek appointment of a Fletcher Royal or similar
officer.
Also, let me add that Fletcher's guild should be interested in modern
target arrows (built per SCA rules), historical replica arrows, crossbow
bolts, combat projectiles, and atl-atl darts, plus any gear directly
related to them, including, but not limited to, quivers, arrow bags,
bracers, gloves, etc. Bow building is not necessarily off limits for the
group, but given the greater experience needed for that craft, it is not
seen as central to the group's activities at this time.
One question to tackle immediately is whether activities of the
fletchers should be included within this archery mailing list, or should
be on a separate forum.
And would the group prefer to remain an informal network, or would they
prefer a charter and officers. (There are already a couple of votes to
keep it informal.)
Please let us have your thoughts and suggestions. I will save all
messages in this thread for reference as we explore this proposal.
Anyone who is interested in being associated directly with the
fletchers' guild can contact me through this discussion group or
directly, and I will add your name to our list.
In your service, and in service to Atlantian archery,
Lord Mungo Napier, Shire of Isenfir Archery Marshal
