Unto all assembled in this email, especially Baroness Arianna, and Lord
AElfgar ...

I wish to briefly respond to a possible misconception ... evidenced in the
following:

> To accept the man's hospitality (the guest thing)
>without abiding by his desires in this matter would be both discourteous
>and foolish - and there are no fools involved in the planning of this
>event.

> A phone call was made to the county police, who
>advised us that the discharge of a crossbow on county property was
>not permitted, save under very restricted circumstances that do not
>apply to us. Even if this information is mistaken, getting into a
>dispute with the police over details of the law while on school grounds
>will not
>endear us to the school authorities, even if we turn out to be correct.
>Again, only a fool would embrace this course of action.

> Regardless of other opinions on this matter, it is
>the autocrat and planners of the event, and the Barony of Lochmere as a
>whole, who are responsible for the planning and execution of this
>event, and it is we who will be most affected by any problems that occur.
>Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to do all that we can do prevent
>said problems. Crossbows will be permitted in the classrooms for
>teaching purposes. They will not be permitted on the range.
>Please make your plans with this in mind.

These sentiments echo those in some rather juicier emails that I received
from others.

At NO point in time did I ever mean to imply, nor did the thought ever
cross my mind, of bringing a crossbow against the wishes of autocrat,
Barony, school, or police, or to suggest to anyone else to do the same.

Somehow, obviously, some of my comments got construed as such, based upon
the responses that I received in line with the above.

I, a student of crossbows, was simply interested in any/all laws that deal
with crossbows, in a wider setting. Not just in reference to University.

In fact, my original message was in response to the statement made to me
that: "In Anne Arundel County crossbows are considered firearms." This is
a serious statement to me, as stated before, as it would forbid me from
selling a crossbow to someone in Anne Arundel county, else I would be a
firearms dealer.

I had heard these kind of statements made before, about the state, and
about certain counties, and I had years ago undergone a thorough check of
the rules/laws/code on this particular point, about crossbows being
considered firearms.

For completely not university reasons, I was concerned about missing a
county in my search ... and I wanted to know what the laws were.

I has now been stated not that crossbows are considered firearms, but that
they are considered dangerous weapons. Thats a 'good thing' for crossbow
makers/owners, and a 'good thing' for people to know.

That was my only goal, was to know the laws ... and we now do.

Again, I never meant to imply that I would break them, or to suggest that
anyone else should.

In Service,
Siegfried
