Apparently I'm signed up to the list as ricks at acpub.duke.edu, so my
ricks at duke.edu mail is getting bound up waiting for approval from the
moderator.

So you'll get this again whenever that occurs.

Archery is not defined by Corpora as a "martial activity"

Any need for authorization is in addition to this waiver fee. All fighters
need to be authorized in order to enter the list or even fight in pick-ups
at an event. I have suggested before that maybe we should have a list sign
in at the MoL table and another waiver signed that is specifically for the
Archery activity. After all, it is a martial activity with a relatively
higher possibility of serious injury if an accident happens (Heavens
Forbid). It is sort of a CYOA issue and helps encourage those that wish to
play seriously to take this game we love seriously. If I made any mistakes
or misquotes please verify with the KMoL, but I am sure that this is the case.

The KMoL has no desire to "take over" archery waivers, or institute them.
Archers are covered by the waiver when they sign in at the event. If you
wish to donate money to the KMoL and heavies, feel free.

Subject: [Archers] New Archer Names
Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 12:06:47 -0400

A couple of issues. I apologize for being 'removed' as of late but work has
grabbed 90% of my time lately. My SCA 'to it' list just keeps getting
bigger and longer with no light in the tunnel.

Issue #1 (the easy one)
When a new archer, and new to the SCA, attends one of our events or
practices, and participates in a Royal Round or IKAC we should be careful
of how we submit their names to the respective scorkeepers.

In keeping within the format of the SCA naming policies - If the new archer
gives a name that tends toward the fantasy realm we should be prepared to:
1) talk to the archer and let them know that the name does not fit the
normal SCA concepts.
2) verify if they play with some other type of group and if that is their
valid name.
3) ask the archer if:
     1) they could pick some other name, even if it is temporary, that is
more appropriate for the SCA
     2) the SCA name can be left blank until the archer can come up with an
appropriate name. The SCA name can always be added later.
This is also to inform Gregge not to approve names that are obviously or
near fantasy until verification can be made with the submitting marshal on
the validity of the name as a valid SCA type name. But at the same time let
the scores be displayed with the archers mundane name. There is no reason
to penalize the archer, by not displaying their scores, while a SCA name
research is being conducted.

Issue #2 (the dicey one)
Waivers
Thanks Corwyn for the quick response. And that clears things for me al
little also. As I have not heard all the details yet and heard of the final
result I have been waiting for command decisions to change the present way
we run things to roll down. And not just rumors.
From what was stated - at events we do not need to worry about waivers as
they are bring signed for at Troll.

And from what I understand we WILL be using the same waivers at practices
that is normally signed at Troll. They are for any adult or child that is
not a SCA member. It would be the duty of the marshal in charge of a
practice to ensure that all participants have a blue card or a waiver. For
the blue card holders - suggest the marshal get the expiration date on all
their local archers and that way they might not have to check every time.
Listing of the archers name and expiration on the clipboard with the score
page is a possible.

The waiver forms can be found at http://mol.atlantia.sca.org/forms.html

From what I understand the $1 fee was for heavy fighters that did not have
their authorization card on the field with them.
