Fight Colorectal Cancer is the leading colorectal cancer advocacy
organization in the United States, empowering survivors to raise their
voices and advocate on their own behalf. The Director of Community
Engagement is responsible for cultivating and supporting our ever-growing
community of patient advocates and their families.

*Position Summary:*

Manages, directs, supervises and coordinates meaningful engagement with
colorectal cancer patients, families and caregivers through the activities
of Fight Colorectal Cancer’s policy, patient information and community
engagement programs.  Manages projects – such as volunteer development and
mentoring and state affiliate development - through collaboration with
internal teams and external stakeholders
 *Essential Functions and Responsibilities:* **
Program Coordination

   - Uses outreach strategies and activities/events to encourage and support
   the colorectal cancer community to become advocates for themselves and the
   cause;
   - Develops and supports a plan for peer leadership in the volunteer
   community, including but not limited to volunteer committees, affiliates and
   regional and state directors;
   - Develops guidelines for volunteers and affiliates to cultivate
   relationships in local communities around the country;
   - Plans and executes the annual grassroots advocacy training and lobby
   day and coordinates additional advocate fly-ins as needed;
   - Works strategically to reach under-served populations with advocacy
   messages and patient information;
   - Meets with advocates, patient groups and other stakeholders to develop
   initiatives to reach new constituencies with information about the programs
   and services Fight CRC can offer;
   - Creates and facilitates the orientation program for new volunteers;
   - Prepares speeches, presentations and talking points on related topics;
   - Acts as a community liaison for Fight CRC, providing feedback and
   perspective to all stakeholders as needed;
   - Collaborates with key staff on the content of the Fight CRC website,
   including its blogs and monthly e-newsletter, as well as the social media
   outreach of the organization;
   - Serves on the editorial team for the organization’s newsletter;
   - Maintains the department’s annual budget and adheres to all budget
   requirements.
   - Some travel required.

Supervision

Manages, directs and supervises the activities of the department’s team
consisting of support staff, volunteers, interns, consultants and vendors.

Special Projects

With the Development staff, identifies opportunities for local fundraising
events.

Education and experience:*

A Bachelors degree and 5+ years in health policy, public relations or
community engagement; experience managing departmental budgets, staff and
volunteers; proven experience with strategic goal setting and execution;
expertise in writing for the patient population
