Hi, there!  At first i thought you were right and things should have been spot on but then i realized fluid ounces are a measure of volume and not the same as ounces used in pounds which are a unit of mass. Are you weighing your honey or putting it in a measuring cup? Because 16 fluid ounces does not equal a pound.

My one gallon recipe calls for 3.5 Lbs of honey. 3 16 oz measuring cups only left me  with 8 oz of honey. what am I doing wrong. and I'm afraid I put the yeast in too soon. the must was about 109F(of course I measured it right after I put in the yeast) too hot? (It doesn't seem as if 5 lbs of honey translates correctly,although certainly the  bottle says 80 oz.

My husband and I have not yet had a chance to attend a Newcomer's mtg (we'll
attend one this month), but we would very much like to attend the mead
making meeting this Sunday.  Is that permissible?  And is a costume
