[Ponte Alto] OT: Columbia to Silver Spring

Pardon the off-topic post, I seek the wisdom of DC area commuters.  I am 
considering a job in downtown Silver Spring, on East-West Highway.  I 
live in northeast Columbia, almost to Elicott City.  Does anyone have 
experience with a similar commute?  Driving or a bus would be options, I 
do not think train will be. Any input would be appreciated.
