[Ponte Alto] Recruiting at Colleges

I will talk with the Asst. Director and the Events management office. There are probably a few forms we will have to fill out (liability stuff), but I think we could probably have both a couple of demos and a practice place. I am leaving for vacation tonight, but I will make some contacts today and at least get the ball rolling til I get back (May 14th).

Holy Crap Sian!!!! Could you ever. This would be awesome!!!!

Can you help us get a practice site on Compus? Or just someplace to practice sometimes?

This is in our backyard and could help out so much I think.

Oh boy! I get to be useful. I am an employee in the Facilities Management
Office of George Mason University. My office is right next door to the
university's Assistant Director of Operations. I would love to help in any way
I can. While Mason does draw for other areas, lots of the students are from
Northern VA.

Indeed, colleges can be a fantastic resource for the SCA. I am a college recruit
myself. But relize that college students will require a lot of gold key items;
and _very plesant_ people to help guide them; closer to their age the better.
And will require rides to events or any activities that are not on capus.

Also realize that most likely you are recruiting for the SCA as when they
graduate and go, whereever, they will find the local chapter. Of course since DC
is such a big draw a good number my stay on.

Disreputable curs!!! Sorry, as an honorary member of the 3 Skulls, I felt
obligated to say that. :)

Last I heard (and to be fair, this was a long while ago), their security
activities were done independent of the SCA. They viewed themselves as
much more than an SCA household. So I don't know how much recruiting was
done there. However, an SCA presence at sci-fi cons, ren faires, etc. has
paid off for some of groups. Smaller cons/faires are often willing to
give the SCA space and admission for free in exchange for demos - the SCA
provides free entertainment.

How is Ponte Alto's relationship to the local universities? This can be a
goldmine for groups in college towns.

Sabine
