Join us on the Mall in Washington DC
   September 25 through September 30, 2006

Gilding at the Smithsonian 2006 is slated to be a fantastic event. Included
will be a wide array of classes, workshops, and lectures. Also included in
the festivities will be a number of social events including special Gilding
Tours of Washington, DC and a Champagne Brunch on the Potomac River.

Manuscript Illumination
    €     Tickets: Gen. Admission $396, RAP & SOG Members $350
    €     This workshop covers the water gilding techniques created
especially for paper and parchment. Also included are the basics of creating
water-based paints from original sources such as earth, stones, bugs, and
flowers.
    €     Wed. and Thurs., Sept. 27 and 28, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m

Verre Eglomise: New Approaches to an Ancient Technique
    €     Tickets: Gen. Admission $45, RAP & SOG Members $35
    €     Imagine a luminous mirror-like surface, where light is reflected
and colors glimmer‹ this is the ancient art of verre eglomise (reverse glass
painting). This evening, some of the field's most renowned specialists
discuss the technique.
    €     Tues., Sept. 26; 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Gilded Furniture
    €     Tickets: Gen. Admission $45, RAP & SOG Members $35
    €     Examples of furniture with beautiful hand-gilded work can be found
in every significant furniture period from the earliest pieces discovered in
the tomb of Queen Hetepheres, 4th Dynasty Egypt, to the Rococo and Queen
Anne periods as well as today's fine furniture.
