Greetings to all dyers of Ponte Alto.

Tomorrow is dye day. The dye pots start warming at 10am, although we are
doing cold water dying, so we'll just warm 'em by putting them out in the sun!
If it rains, we will still dye, since I have a deck above us and we can throw
a plastic tarp on it if it begins leaking on us.

Don't forget, cellulose fibers only, not wool. Silk is fine too (ah, magical
silk). Best are cotton, linen and rayon (hemp would be interesting, I hear
it dies wonderfully, but haven't done it myself).

If you can, I would ask dyers to bring the following along.

- your own bucket/container for your dye. Reasonably estimate that you
would want a one-gallon container per yard of fabric(e.g., three yards, three
gallon container). If your fabric is heavy, go a bit bigger. If you can't find
one, I'm sure I have something. Also, if two people want to dye the same
color, I have a few larger buckets (5-7 gallons).

- salt. A safe estimate is about 1/2 cups of salt per yard of fabric. This
is actually a bit high of an estimate, but it is better to overestimate than
underestimate with salt.

My phone number is 703 922-2937.

To get to my house: 5876 Langton Drive, Alexandria

>From the Beltway:

Exit 173 Van Dorn
right at the traffic light ontoVan Dorn.
right at 2nd traffic light (Crown Royal)
left at first stop sign (Heatherwood Drive)
right at first right-hand turn (Langton Drive), dead end street.
My house is an end unit 3/4 down the road, near the end of the street (houses
are on left side only).
I'm just past the 'turnaround' circle and in front of the mailbox

Please DO NOT park in a numbered spot. You can park in front of the houses
on the street.

>From 95 South
It's easiest just to take 95 to the Beltway, toward Maryland (NOT Tyson's),
then follow the directions above.

>From 395 North
Take 395 South to 95 North (just past the 495 Tyson's exit), then follow the
direction's above.

>From Fairfax County Parkway (this seems hard, but it really is easy). You
are basically staying on the same road all the way until you turn to go into my
community, but it keeps changing names, so here goes...

Head east toward Alexandria - Stay on Fairfax county parkway
(it will turn into Franconia Springfield Parkway, stay on it)
-past the Springfield Mall and past Springfield Metro
  - past Beulah Street.
(the road will turn into Manchester Lakes Road, stay on it!)
  - Past Chicago Pizza, Panera Bread (on right), and Walmart,
Toys-R-Us, Lazyboy and Kohls on the left.
(the road turns into Kingstown Road, stay on it!)
  - Once you pass Walmart the road will curve to the left at a traffic
light and become Van Dorn (you'll be going around the shopping
area that is on your left side).
  - Stay on Van Dorn and drive through/past Franconia Road
          (about 1 1/2 miles)
  - Left at 2nd traffic light, Crown Royal.
  - left at first stop sign (Heatherwood Drive)
  - right at first street (Langton Drive)
3/4 down, near the end of the street (houses are on left side only).
just past the 'turnaround' circle and in front of the mailbox

Please DO NOT park in a numbered spot. You can park in front of the houses
on the street.
